Midnight Sushi Club 03 - Sweak!

Sweak - Derived from the words ‘sweet’ and ‘weak’, used to describe the action of something good turning bad in a short space of time.

“Starts positive ends negative”.

Example; Your at a house party, you find your can of beer after misplacing it, you go for a celebratory swig, only to find someone’s fag butt in the bottom. ‘Sweak!’

Other common uses; ‘the Sweakness’, ‘Sweak-out’, ‘lets get Sweaky’.

Another month another mix, the second selection from Real Neil for the sweet guys at Volume. The only thing Sweak about this selection is the title.

14. & 15. The first of two Hip Hop tracks I used to listen to this track on my disc-man on the way to secondary school. Simplicity’s the key I think. I am still listening to them. The Disc-man’s gone though.

16. Diplo and the Mad Decent boys seem to be on a comedic tip this month. Here’s Gucci! I could have chosen any of the tracks from the ‘Free Gucci (Best of Cold war mix tapes) Ep. I just like the sincerity of his sentiments on this one.

19. Elephant Man Hollering his version of ‘Halo’ at the top of his voice. What’s there not to like.

20. Got to big up my Brother for this one and Jazzsteppa who first let it loose at full volume. The only way it can properly be appreciated really. Apparently it mixes itself.

One of the many amusing remixes from Diplo's 'Free Gucci - Best of the cold War Mixtapes'.

The Guy's in Prison, the guys from Mad Decent want him out.

With tracks like 'I am the sh*t' I still find myself asking whether they are laughing at him or with him?

Beats from Memory Tapes, Zombie, flying Lotus and Mumdance mean I don't care.

He ain't coming round mine for tea though.

Gorillaz - Stylo

This is a bit of a reluctant post.

I have never been a big fan of the Gorillaz but...

The first tune available from the new album featuring Bobby Womack and Mos Def (even if for only 30 seconds at the end!) sounds really good. The album also featues Little Dragon, Lou Reed, Kano, Gruff Rhys and De La Soul amongst others.

Midnight Sushi Club 02 - Nu Soul.

‘New Look’ begin a string of four new Soul numbers, super smooth vocals with a solid electronic beat that gives it something nu. Muhsinah, Little Dragon and Sonnymoon with ‘Run Away’ my favourite tune this week pick up what the boy-friend girl-friend partnership put down.

If you recognise this track (track 10.) from somewhere you may have guessed it’s sampled for a track featuring a certain Rap super villain.

These Nordic Nerds (track 14.) have recently been touring with The Whitest Boy Alive, “lucky!” No surprise they look like a team of Napoleon Dynamites. I can’t vouch for their dancing but I love their songs.

It’s an international edit of a remix (track 19), its sick. Renaissance man are spitting them out faster than I can download them right now. Hats off boys!
